Charity Luncheon, Friday Feb 21st, Christchurch Casino
The popular Charity Luncheon is back!! And now announcing our special guest speaker, Olympic Champion track cyclist and Kiwi sporting legend, Sarah Ulmer!
Also back for 2014, our very popular Charity Auction – so much fun in 2012, this year items autographed by Valerie Adams, Tom Walsh, Nick Willis, Lucy van Dalen, and Angie Smit, as well as Dick Tayler and Sarah Ulmer, will go under the auctioneer’s hammer.
Hosted this year in the new Mashina Bar at the Christchurch Casino, from 12.30pm on Friday the 21st of February, for $100/head you will receive a full service 3-course meal, drinks included, and be treated to guest speakers and Q&A session, as well as the Charity Auction.
Guest speakers – Sarah Ulmer, Olympic Champion track cyclist, with Scott Goodman, Athletics New Zealand High Performance Director, will share insights into what it takes for talented youngsters to become the Champions of Tomorrow, and discuss the role of events like the International Track Meet in this.
In 2012 over 200 guests enjoyed lunch with a panel of past and present middle distance stars, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Peter Snell’s world 800m/880yds records set at Lancaster Park in 1962, and last year celebrated NZ’s fine history in throwing events with guest appearances by Val Young, Beatrice Faumuina, and others.
This year we are celebrating the International Track Meet’s proud and growing tradition of helping build the Champions of Tomorrow. Athletes such as Canterbury’s own Tom Walsh and Angie Smit, Auckland’s Jacko Gill, and Australia’s Ryan Gregson have competed in early versions of the ITM as promising juniors, before going on to international stardom. We are very proud of our development pathway and the opportunities we create for aspiring youngsters to compete alongside their heroes and be inspired by them – this year’s luncheon will explore critical aspects of this for our heroes of the future.
Lunch and the panel discussion will be followed by the media conference for the 2014 International Track Meet.
